If you aren’t sure what type of ski gear you need, you’re new to the sport or you’re simply strapped for cash, a ski swap is the way to go. In the coming weeks, there are a few options for those wishing to find inexpensive and gently used outdoor gear, including skis, snowboards and all the cool accessories that come with them, at this year’s ski swaps.
First up is the 2015 Winter Gear & Sports Swap, to be held Oct. 24 at the UAA Alaska Airlines Center. Gear will be brought in on the 23rd (sign up at akskiswap.com), and sold on the 24th. The hours are noon-5 p.m. The Alaska Airlines Center is at 3550 Providence Drive, right next to Providence hospital.
The Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage hosts its annual ski swap Nov. 7 at Kincaid Chalet. The details are still being ironed out, but make sure to mark your calendars, because this is a popular event with some top-notch skis and snowboards available each year. Stay tuned to anchoragenordicski.com for details.
The Eagle River Nordic Ski Club also hosts a ski swap – theirs is set for 9 a.m.-noon, Nov. 14, to be held at the Beach Lake Chalet in Chugiak. Check ernsc.org or look them up on Facebook for more details.
