Last October the Oxygen & Octane Expo, showcasing all things snow, experienced a record turnout. Alaskan’s love their winter sports and recreation, and they proved it by piling into the Dena’ina Center in downtown Anchorage
to browse through racks of gear, learn the latest in snowmachine technology, find deals on skis and snowboards and talk
with industry professionals, guides and getaway owners. Oxygen & Octane promises to upstage itself this October 5-7 in the Dena’ina Center with the biggest snowsports bash to date. Free to the public, “Big O” is the
new symbol of a fun winter to come.
“We’re going to have an even livelier time along 7th Avenue,” said John Woodbury, event founder. “We’re also going to feature a new fitness fair and the Big O Film Show as a judged event.”
Vendor space is at a premium now. Amidst last year’s success, many companies such as Polaris, Ski-Doo and Arctic Cat were committed to appearing at the 2012 expo before last year’s event had even finished. Other vendors (to name but a few of the more than 100 vendors who regulary set up shop at the Big O each year) include: White Spruce Trailers; Alyeska Resort; the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage; Zak’s Boardroom; 6th Avenue Outfitters; the Alaska Club and; Arctic Chiropractic.
“Our vendors go all out as far as displays and deals for Expogoers,” says Woodbury. “Not only do they cut the best deals of the year at the Expo, the dates coincide with the annual Permanent Fund Dividend checks. Invest in some fun this winter, I say, and be sure to start that quest at the Big O show!”
Visitors can expect some fantastic deals on clothing and gear, electronics and winter gear necessities, and Big O conveniently takes place a day after the Permanent Fund Dividend hits bank accounts.
If it’s a new snowmachine you’re looking for, dealers will be on location to show and sell the latest models and a few used sleds, too. Visitors might even find a sweet deal on a new sideby-side or personal ATV.
Look for even more growth this year at the annual ski and sno-go swap meet on 7th Avenue.
