Favorite funny movie:  “Waking Ned Devine;” don’t know when I’ve ever laughed so hard.

Your five favorite holiday-oriented things to do in Alaska:
1. Skiing at Alyeska Resort during Christmas break.
2. Snowmachining into a cabin for a multi-day trip/ride.
3. Hanging up the outside Christmas lights on the trees with my niece, Racy.
4. Eggnog with rum, Bing Crosby and a warm blanket on a couch.
5. Airing of the grievances.
Favorite thing to do when I’m not working:  Skiing or snowmachining with friends.
Favorite funny movie: “Idiocracy”
Favorite go-to southcentral Alaska restaurant: Twister Creek, Talkeetna.
Favorite guilty pleasure snack: Breyers ice cream, rocky road or mint chip.
Favorite place to find good deals in southcentral Alaska: The Oxygen & Octane Expo, for winter equipment and gear.

Favorite holiday: Christmas

Meranda Carter – Art Guru AKA Layout Art and Production Manager untitled-3004

Your five favorite holiday-oriented things to do in Alaska:
1.  Pretend I’m a lumberjack and hijack a Christmas tree from a local unsuspecting plot of land.
2.   A New Year’s Eve rocket launch party – lots of fireworks and more bad life choices
3.  Skiing, ice climbing and sledding
4.  Driving around and basking in the awesomeness of other people’s decorating skills because I am a cheapo dirt-bag, and come to find out Christmas decorations don’t fit well in the old backpack.
5.   Snowball Warz … yes with a Z for intense factor
Favorite thing to do when I’m not working:  Adventure. Whether it’s climbing, backpacking, skiing or traveling, I’m all about it. Also taking photos, designing and writing about all of the above for thewildbonesproject.com. Such is the curse of making your passion your job.
Favorite funny movie: It’s a tie. “Zoolander” or “Night at the Roxbury.” Blue steel is something that takes years of finesse.
Favorite go-to southcentral Alaska restaurant: Starving artists can’t be choosers. Not how the saying goes, but close enough. Yak N’ Yeti is ridiculously delicious. I also like pho.
Favorite guilty pleasure snack: Ice Cream. All of the ice cream. Oh, and pizza – lots of pizza.
Favorite place to find good deals in southcentral Alaska: Working for REI had its perks. However, I’d still have to say … REI.  Dividends are the besty best.
Favorite book or band: (book) Hmm, getting into the hard questions, I see. “On the Road,” by Jack Kerouac or for that matter any Kerouac book. “Into the Wild” is also one that changed the course of my life.
Favorite holiday: Halloween. Hands down. If I could replace Valentines Day with Halloween No. 2, I totally would.
Favorite dream destination vacation, if money were no object:  A backpacking circuit around Australia, New Zealand, and up into Southeast Asia. Also doing the Appalachian Trail and a bike tour would be great. So, when do we leave?

katieKatie Pesznecker- APRÈS Columnist

Favorite thing to do besides writing your column: Traveling! I love exploring Alaska and beyond. At press time, I’m gearing up for Hawaii and New Orleans. I’m planning a trip to Central America in February. My favorite thing is to wander a new city without a plan and just soak up the scenes and the sense of place.
Favorite funny movie: “Galaxy Quest.” Hugely underrated ensemble comedy about a washed-up crew of has-been actors from a now-defunct, Star Trek-like show, who are beamed up to space by a confused but vulnerable and persecuted group of aliens who are convinced these folks are real space heroes and can save them from an alien overlord. Hilarity ensues.
Favorite go-to southcentral Alaska restaurant: This is a hard one to answer as I have so many friends in the industry, and we are lucky to have so many great restaurants, but Ginger delivers quality and fresh ingredients in style and never disappoints me.
Favorite guilty pleasure snack: Totino’s Party Pizza, which, incidentally, doesn’t even taste like pizza. But darn it’s good.
Favorite place to find good deals in Alaska: I’m a huge fan of the Prospector in Valdez. When they set up the sales tent outside full of sporting goods and outdoor clothes, you know you’re in for some screaming deals. Their annual dividend is a great perk, too. And they run great giveaways on Facebook.
Favorite book: “Angle of Repose” by Wallace Stegner. The narrator, older and wheel-chair bound, sets about telling the story of his frontier-era grandparents – he an engineer, she an artist, two people who loved yet at times hardly knew each other, who struggled to make a life and a marriage. It won the Pulitzer for fiction in 1972.
Favorite holiday: Thanksgiving. It’s all about family and relaxation, no crazy costumes or gift-giving required.
Favorite dream destination vacation, if money were no object: Croatia is at the top of my list. The architecture and beaches look amazing.

Joe Stock – 61 Degrees Columnist Joe Stock backcountry ski mountaineering in the Alaska Range, Alaska.

BWLR Mike HalkoMike Halko – Running Wild Columnist

Favorite funny movie:  “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” Classic British humor, love the killer rabbits scene and the tenacity of the dark knight, shouting,  “You shall not pass,” after a limb is hacked off.
Favorite go-to southcentral Alaska restaurant:  Snow City Café, the perfect post-run spot on Sunday to enjoy the paper;  Tofu Scramble with hot sauce, yummy.
Favorite guilty pleasure snack:  A Kaladi Brothers venti eggnog latte with whole milk. Boom! After all that caffeine, running  six miles is a snap.
Favorite Place for good deals:  REI, a wide range of athletic gear and grub. Numerous educational sessions and travel logs are presented to the public free of charge.  Plus you receive a dividend on most purchases.  Finally, probably the most liberal return policy in retail.
Favorite book:  “Illusions,” by Richard Bach, the Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah
Favorite band:  “Yonder Mountain String Band”
Favorite dream destination, if money were no object:  Lochmara Lodge on Queen Charlotte Sound only an hour by sea taxi from Picton, New Zealand, South Island. You and that special someone can do it all here: sea kayak, mountain bike, hike and trail run. Imaging the surreal experience of an evening swim and your strokes begin to trigger the bio-luminescence of the algae.
