Just in time for prime mushroom picking, the Girdwood Fungus Fair, set for Aug. 28-30, is a multi-faceted weekend of forays, naturalist presentations, outdoor concert, culminating with a Fabulous Fungus Formal featuring multi-courses showcasing local fungus treasures. Guest speakers include:
• Denis Benjamin, author of “Mushrooms, Poisons and Panaceas: A Handbook for Naturalists, Mycologists and Physicians and Musings of a Mushroom Hunter: A Natural History of Foraging.”
• Noah Siegel, whose field mycology skills are extensive – he has spent two decades seeking, photographing, identifying and furthering his knowledge about macrofungi.
• Alissa Allen, an amateur mycologist who specializes in presenting regional mushroom and lichen dye palettes to communities all over the country. Allen has been sharing her passion for mushroom and lichen dyes and collaborating with other dyers for over 12 years.
• Steve Trudell, author of “Mushrooms of the Pacific Northwest” and “Tricholomas of North America.” Trudell has been identifying and photographing mushrooms and studying their ecology for over 30 years.
